About the Artist    

Joan Michaels Paque is a multi-media artist who has exhibited and taught internationally throughout Australia, Japan, Europe, Mexico, Canada and the United States. She studied at Layton School of Art and Marquette University on scholarship. This experience was a foundation for applications in both literary and visual art forms including the authoring and publishing of three books and writing for art journals.

Her artworks are found in many prestigious public and private collections including Smithsonian Institution National Museum Permanent Collection of Fine Art, Washington, DC; Southampton Art Museum, London, England and the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Numerous commissioned works are located in university settings such as Illinois State University; University of Wisconsin, Madison and St. Cloud State University and in the corporate offices of Elenhank Designers, Chicago; Roundy's Corporation Headquarters; Munz Corporation; Faison, Milwaukee; Johansen Investment Corporation, Pleasanton, California, and Aid Association for Lutherans. Her work was also shown at Sculptural Objects & Functional Art, Navy Pier, Chicago.

Foreign museums exhibiting work include Museum d'art Modern, Paris, France; Muse Espanola de arte Contemporaneous, Madrid, Spain; Lummox et Late, Milan, Italy; Kunstewebemuseum, Zurich, Switzerland and Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm, Sweden among others.

Selected solo exhibitions here and abroad are Australian National University, Canberra; Wisconsin Lutheran College; University of Notre Dame; University of North Carolina, Greensboro; Ariel Gallery, Chicago; Garver Gallery, Madison; Cardinal Stritch University and University of Louisville, Kentucky.

Invitational catalog exhibitions include "Objects USA" which traveled to major museums nationally and abroad, "Homage to the Bag", Museum of Contemporary Crafts, New York; and "Fiber Revolution" Milwaukee Art Museum, both traveled nationally to major museums, and "International Invitational" Shipley Art Gallery, England.

Among visiting artist residencies are Bellas Artes, San Miguel de Allende Mexico; Australian National University, Canberra; Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York; Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; Kawashima School, Kyoto, Japan; Arrowmont School of Art in Tennessee; and numerous Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Mittagong, Brisbane, Newcastle and Geelong.

Other involvements include serving as juror and curator of exhibitions and on editorial and advisory boards. Additionally she has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants and is represented in various Who's Who publications.
